If we depend on our own resources to be acceptable to God, then we force Him to take those resources away. God will let us go on for a long time, until we learn the weakness and folly of our own way of life. But ultimately, He will take them all away.

In the same way, the day God takes from us all of our resources will seem like a dreary and miserable day. Suddenly, the things we have counted on to make us acceptable to God have vanished from our lives. We are miserable. We feel lost. Yet that is truly one of the greatest days of our lives, because we are now free to enter the promised land, free to depend on a God alone.

What resources are you clinging to? Perhaps it’s your career, your beautiful home, your material possessions. Perhaps it’s your reputation, your standing in the community, your position as a teacher or leader in the church. Perhaps it’s your health, your marriage, or some cherished dream. Suddenly those resources have been removed from your life, and you feel empty and alone. You have nothing left to depend on but God.

It’s time to leave those things my friend. It’s time to believe the promise of God and set forth on your journey to the land He has promised you.

What’s on the other side is so much better!

Amen. The rich young ruler probably learned that lesson down the road. Don’t you ever wonder what happened to him?

21 Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”

22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

I really believe God was trying to set Him free from the love of possessions. Just like your message says. The cool thing is, what God gives us in return for giving them up is far more than we ever had anyway. What a Gos we serve
