Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee. But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just. (Luke 14:12-14 KJV)

With Thanksgiving Day approaching, I am quickly reminded of what Jesus mentioned in Luke 14:12-14. He wanted everyone to keep the poor and needy in the forefront of their minds and the best way to show that “true” love to someone is by being kind even when you do not know them or want to.

In these verses Jesus talked about being invited to a dinner, not to just invite your family, friends or close ones, but to show God’s love by inviting someone you may have had conflict with, a grudge for years, or just never got along with that person. Jesus is challenging us to step outside of our comfort zone and placed the need for others as a way to show “true” love.

The reward is two-fold. The feeling of pleasing God by displaying His Love is the immediate gratitude. The second is the blessing from the everlasting father who promised to bless us as a Repayment for our deed.

Jesus uses the word, “blessed” and how God has us in mind when we seek to do kind things for the poor, needy or even a stranger we come across daily. These blessings we receive is all apart of God’s master plan to give us exceedingly abundantly whatever we ask or think. These are the promise that we have access to as we stroll through life’s journey.

Now can you imagine receiving a blessing for your Godly act of mercy on someone you wouldn’t typically invite to Thanksgiving or being kind to?

Make that your goal this week, to demonstrate kindness to someone you normally wouldn’t. Allow the God in you to show to others, especially, during a week where the thought of giving thanks is not so ideal anymore.

Show your God character and allow others to see what He is doing in your life.

    • If you read the post it’s referring to what Jesus talked about in Luke ..coming together for a feast it’s easy to invite and fine with friends or even close ones..but when we step outside or comfort zone and do something nice for someone we normally wouldn’t want to fine with: someone you may have a grudge with, long estrange relationship with a family member or friend, someone at work that is alone, do something for the poor and needy. We will be blessed with a repayment from God.. When we place others needs above ours we will be rewarded….if you read the passage in the bible you will see the correlation to Thanksgiving….God bless you
